Andy Masciarella doesn’t really need a new car, apparently.
He won a new Honda Civic in a raffle Thursday night as part of the American Honda Birdies for Children charity program and opted to give it to Wheels for Kids instead. The organization gives customized wheelchairs to children in need.
Nineteen people were eligible to win the car in a raffle at the Wyndham Grand Jupiter at Harbourside by correctly predicting the number of birdies – 1,168 – in this year’s Honda Classic. The tournament was at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens in February.
Four of those people planned to give it Wheels for Kids if they won, President Denise Roeser said.
The list of people who pledge to give their prizes has grown, she said.
“It makes them feel good and warm and fuzzy that they’re giving to charity also. So it’s a win-win deal for everybody,” Roeser said. “It’s just so exciting. I’m still pinching myself.”
